Well another holiday means more dessert, fatty foods, junk food and of course candy. You start seeing Easter decorations and candy before Valentine's Day.  Then to make matters worse it's now 1/2 off the day after the holiday, so if you didn't already gain 10 lbs... then go buy up more or better yet raid your child's basket.

We never got into putting Easter candy into our boys' baskets. My husband and I figured that if we start baskets without candy then they will not know what they are missing. Instead we filled them with a ton of stuff from $5 and Below (which is a glorified Dollar Store). Each boy got a book about bugs, bug catcher, Play dough, Art stuff, baseball gear and outdoor games.

The night before Easter we sat our carrots and lettuce for the Easter Bunny and the next morning the boys were so excited to see if the Easter Bunny came to our house. When they saw that he had they began to look for their hidden baskets. When they found their baskets they were thrilled with all their new stuff and not once did they ask for candy. Later on that day we had an Easter Egg Hunt and I filled them with all natural jelly beans from WFM and they had a blast finding them and of course eating as many as they could at the time but left the rest.

I am sure some people think I am a little over the edge with NOT giving my kids junk and sometimes I do feel a little crazy at times.  I know my boys will grow up eating sweets, trust me they get it honest with me as a mother. I just want their day to day life to be as healthy as possible because these are the years that will shape them for the rest of their lives. If they learn at ages 4 and 2...everything in moderation,  then when they are adults maybe they will keep their healthy eating habits (for the most part).

I also loved that they played together, and shared their new toys ( for the most part). To me they were just as happy, even more so without a tummy ache and then coming down from a sugar high :) Which made for a happier mommy that I didn't have to tear 2 little ones off the wall.
