The power of We

by Lynn

Alone I am one single being,

in the scheme of things a dust mote, with no more value than that.

And yet I am taught that I am important.

As one?

Or as one among many?

This is the paradox for Americans who prize our individual freedom above all else.

When calamity strikes, even we must admit that individual action cannot rebuild the swath cut through a city by a tornado,

Or replace the parents lost to war,

Or erase the fires raging through millions of forest acres.

Some answers, or at least a balm does lie in individuals.

But without others, without the collective power of we,

hope becomes not a possibility,

but simply

a word.

This post is in honor of Blog Action Day today, October 15, 2012. Every year, Blog Action Day has focused bloggers around the world to blog about one important global topic on the same day. Past topics have included water, climate change, poverty and good. This year, Blog Action Day focuses on The Power of We, a celebration of people working together to make a positive difference in the world, either for their own communities or for people they will never meet half way around he world.
