The power of We
in the scheme of things a dust mote, with no more value than that.
And yet I am taught that I am important.
Or as one among many?
This is the paradox for Americans who prize our individual freedom above all else.
When calamity strikes, even we must admit that individual action cannot rebuild the swath cut through a city by a tornado,
Or replace the parents lost to war,
Or erase the fires raging through millions of forest acres.
Some answers, or at least a balm does lie in individuals.
But without others, without the collective power of we,
hope becomes not a possibility,
